Loving this recording of “Evening Prayer” feat Loving this recording of “Evening Prayer” featured on Tenebrae’s album, A Prayer for Deliverance, alongside wonderful luminous works by Caroline Shaw, Joel Thompson, Cecilia McDowall, and Francis Pott. The album offers a meditation on themes of solace, forgiveness and hope and the performances are honestly exquisite (link in bio).

Evening Prayer was originally commissioned by @sonorochoir as part of their Choral Inspirations project, as a reflection of Rheinberger’s Abendlied. Do check them out - it’s a brilliant project

Thank you again @tenebraechoir

Apt to share this on World Refugee Day: the newly Apt to share this on World Refugee Day: the newly released recording Lament and Liberation includes my piece Refugee -the second work in the triptych Echoes in Time performed by @sjcchoir , directed by Christopher Gray.

Each year, 20th June invites us to reflect on the lives of millions forced to flee their homes in search of safety. Refugee sets words by Malcolm Guite, contemplating the profound human cost of displacement and exile through the lens of the flight into Egypt.

The choir’s luminous sound and extraordinary sensitivity bring this piece to life with rare poignancy 📀
🎶 I first came across Malcolm Guite’s powerfu 🎶 I first came across Malcolm Guite’s powerful poem “Refugee” when it was read at the “Together at Christmas” carol service in Westminster Abbey. I was deeply moved by its vivid and compassionate parallel between the Holy Family and the distressing experiences of so many refugees today.

I’ve been incredibly touched by the response to the choral setting of this piece. You can now hear it on all major streaming platforms, beautifully recorded by @sjcchoir on their new album Lament & Liberation, directed by Christopher Gray. I’m so grateful for this stunning interpretation.
Full engagement with the @ivorsacademy this week. Full engagement with the @ivorsacademy this week. “Summit” on Tuesday with top composer mates (we kind of threw people out of the way to get that photo) and today the Ivors provided an unparalleled green suit opportunity. Chatted to some nice people and learned lots about who’s who in the commercial music world. No new rapper friends though. Maybe next time
Thanks to @hattie.butterworth for capturing a few Thanks to @hattie.butterworth for capturing a few moments from last nights premiere of ‘A Psalm For Chichester’ written to celebrate 950 years of Chichester Cathedral and performed on the 60th anniversary of the Chichester Psalms
Final rehearsal of my ‘A Psalm for Chichester’ Final rehearsal of my ‘A Psalm for Chichester’ for the choir of Chichester Cathedral’s concert tonight celebrating 950 years of the cathedral on the 60th anniversary of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Conducted by Charles Harrison, accompanied on the organ by Tim Ravalde with Oli Butterworth (percussion) and Frances Kelly (harp)
Spotify Masterclass (Masterclass is stretching it, Spotify Masterclass (Masterclass is stretching it, let’s say ‘class’?) I went. I asked a few grumpy questions at the Q&A and then met some fab artists afterwards. I am now friends with a bunch of rappers. Watch this space for collabs 🤗(I am imagining them now listening to Metachoral and gently backing away😆)Anyway, in truth there were a few useful tips re. artists’ Spotify accounts and was nice to meet the MENA team
🎵 Here is an utterly brilliant text—a surreal 🎵 Here is an utterly brilliant text—a surreal, stream-of-consciousness that I set for I Fagiolini’s ReWilding The Waste Land programme. Metachoral is an excerpt from Tim Early’s Poems Descriptive of Rural Life and Scenery. I was delighted when @td_earley gave me permission to use it. It is a gem! It’s now recorded and released on my latest album, A Plastic Theatre.

🌀Watch the full score video on my YouTube channel, or head to my website and search ‘Metachoral’. It’s a wild little journey, enjoy the ride.

A few days on from the @culturesummitad in Abu Dha A few days on from the @culturesummitad in Abu Dhabi and I’m still feeling the joy of it. So inspiring to be in the company of such a remarkable group: people at the top of their game, all passionate about culture’s role in enriching society in every dimension. The whole experience was a reminder to be bold, courageous, and expansive in your thinking. As ever, I am wishing I had taken more photos!

📣Excited that the first pre-release single from 📣Excited that the first pre-release single from the upcoming album of @sjcchoir is The Hidden Light, my Advent carol commission and the first movement of the triptych Echoes in Time. The text was specially commissioned from acclaimed poet and Anglican priest Malcolm Guite.

It was wonderful to catch up with the choir last night in Dallas, where they gave a stunning concert at Park Cities Presbyterian Church and also sang Refugee, another movement from the triptych, also with words by @uitemalcolm3774. I was especially delighted to see my niece, @r3id___ who sings in the choir.

💿 Out today—have a listen! 💿

🧐 What does 16th-century mansplaining sound lik 🧐 What does 16th-century mansplaining sound like… in polyphony?

Here’s a snippet from Dialogo and Quodlibet (2019), written for and performed by the brilliant @stile_antico, featured on my recent album, #APlasticTheatre 🎶💿 The piece was commissioned as the finale of a programme celebrating 16th-century women composers, and yes, it’s a parody.

👉 I’ve put the full score video up on my YouTube page, so you can listen along to the full score. Link in my bio.
